But only very specific imaginations. Regardless of what you may think about the Da Vinci Code as a piece of literature (ha!), fundagelicals can't imagine a story in which certain core tenets of the faith are presented differently for the sake of plot etc.
Are people who read/write government conspiracy theory novels traitors? but of course! -goes the reasoning. I love it.
